Hydrangea paniculata Jane carries generous lime-green flower panicles on a compact, rounded upright shrub. The heads soften through cream and pink before developing deeper burgundy and gray-purple tones, while strong stems keep the long summer display standing above dark green leaves.
At about 3 to 5 feet high and wide, this deciduous shrub fits mixed borders, foundation plantings, patios, and large containers. Its fresh and dried flower heads are valuable for cutting, and yellow autumn foliage adds another seasonal change.
Grow it in full sun to partial shade in moist, well-drained soil. Keep sunnier sites reliably moist, feed in early spring, and prune in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. The plant is toxic if eaten, and handling may irritate sensitive skin.
