Rudolf Goethe Italian aster forms an upright, compact clump of narrow dark green leaves and finely branching flowering stems. From July through September, single lavender-blue to soft blue-violet daisy heads open around clear yellow centers, with each head held in a short corymb.
Mature plants typically reach 15 to 25 inches high and wide. Set it in a sunny, well-drained border with neutral to alkaline soil, where the flowers support pollinators and the stems can be cut for arrangements. Water during dry spells without leaving the soil soggy, deadhead spent blooms, and cut the stems down after dieback.
