Late yellow fruit makes Prunus avium Dönisseni kollane a useful sweet cherry for a sunny home orchard. The small, round-to-heart-shaped cherries often develop a light pink blush, with juicy, firm, sweet-tart flesh suited to fresh eating, juice, and preserves.
The tree reaches about 13 to 15 feet high and 6½ to 8 feet wide, with upright branches and a broad-pyramidal crown. Plant it in full sun, in a sheltered spot with fertile, neutral, moderately moist soil that drains well. It is partly self-fertile, but a compatible sweet cherry nearby can improve the crop.
Leaves and seeds contain cyanogenic compounds. Remove the pits before blending or processing the cherries.
