Eriocapitella hybrida Fantasy Aurora is a compact, free-flowering Japanese anemone selected for smaller borders and containers. A neat, sturdy mound of green foliage sends up branched flowering stems to about 60 centimeters. Red-purple buds open into abundant semi-double pink flowers with conspicuous golden yellow centers from midsummer into autumn. The strong bushy habit and long late-season display suit edging, informal drifts, patio pots, and pollinator-friendly borders.
Grow it in rich, fertile soil that remains evenly moist but drains freely, in full sun or partial shade. Apply a mulch of garden compost over the surrounding soil each spring. Do not add extra fertilizer when the plant is growing in rich soil. Water during long dry spells, avoid winter waterlogging, and provide winter mulch in colder gardens. Cut flower stems to ground level after flowering and clear old foliage in early spring. Wear gloves when handling fresh material.
