Set this deciduous shrub in full sun or partial shade and moist but well-drained soil. It accepts chalk, clay, loam, or sand and tolerates acid, neutral, or alkaline conditions. Keep new plants evenly moist; established shrubs usually need additional water only during prolonged dry periods.
After flowering, remove dead, damaged, crossing, and a few older stems to open the center and encourage new flowering wood. Softwood or hardwood cuttings provide straightforward propagation.
