Armeria maritima Varretu forms tight, low cushions of deep-green evergreen leaves, with light pink double flower heads held close to the foliage from spring into early summer. Its compact scale makes a neat finish along paths, between stones, or at the front of a sunny planting.
Give it full sun and dry to moderately moist, sharply drained soil. It suits rock gardens, alpine troughs, containers, and garden edging; space plants 20 cm apart. Water sparingly after establishment, avoid waterlogged soil and overly rich feeding, and remove spent flower stems to encourage another flush.
