Cotinus coggygria Royal Purple deep wine-purple round leaves hold their color from spring into autumn. Airy smoky panicles soften the outline of a broad architectural shrub. It matures to about 300 to 450 cm high and 300 to 600 cm wide, giving it a clear role in architectural planting. Its yellow, purple flowers are expected from May, June, July.
Give Cotinus coggygria Royal Purple full sun; protect it from avoidable heat or drying wind while roots establish. Keep soil evenly moist while establishing, then water during extended dry periods without leaving roots waterlogged. Prune lightly to shape after flowering, or coppice in spring only when larger leaves are preferred over flowers. Watch for aphids and scale insects may occur. Sap may irritate sensitive skin. Wear gloves when pruning and wash exposed skin after contact.
