Large crimson flowers make Clematis Rouge Cardinal a strong choice for trellises, fences, and wall-side borders from early summer into early fall. The deciduous vine climbs by its leaf stalks and stays relatively compact for a large-flowered clematis.
Grow it in full sun or partial shade in moist but well-drained soil, keeping the root zone cool and shaded. It also performs in a roomy container. The sap can irritate skin, and the plant is toxic if eaten by pets or horses, so wear gloves when handling it.
