Grow it in full sun or light partial shade in average to moderately fertile neutral or alkaline soil that drains freely. Maintain even moisture during establishment, but avoid saturated winter ground around the crown.
Its neat scale suits border fronts, cottage gardens, rock gardens, edging, containers and naturalistic drifts. Remove spent stems after flowering, divide established clumps in spring, and retain seedlings only when variation is acceptable.
