Origanum Rosenkuppel is a compact deciduous ornamental oregano forming a bushy, spreading clump about 30 to 60 cm high and wide. Small aromatic green leaves develop purple flushing, especially along their margins and veins. From midsummer into autumn, slender stems carry airy flattened clusters of tiny violet-red to purple flowers surrounded by conspicuous red-purple bracts, attracting bees and other pollinators.
Grow Rosenkuppel outdoors in full sun or light partial shade in chalky, loamy, or sandy soil that drains freely. It performs best where winter wet is avoided and established plants tolerate dry periods well. Cut old flowered stems back in early spring and divide mature clumps when necessary. This ornamental selection suits gravel, rock, cottage, informal, Mediterranean-style, wildlife, pollinator, coastal, herb, border, edging, mass-planting, and outdoor-container settings. Its ornamental garden use does not make it a houseplant.
