Veronica Zita forms a neat, compact evergreen mound covered in small glossy green leaves. Deep-pink flower spikes rise over the foliage from summer into autumn, bringing a long season of color and drawing bees and butterflies to the garden.
Grow this shrubby veronica in full sun or partial shade, in moderately fertile soil that remains moist but drains freely. A sheltered position and reliable winter drainage help protect the plant during severe cold. Its compact growth suits the front of a flowering border, a courtyard bed, a rock garden, or a patio container.
Water regularly during the first year without allowing the root zone to become waterlogged. Once flowering ends, trim lightly just below the faded spikes to keep the shrub dense and rounded. Watch for aphids, tortrix moth caterpillars, downy mildew, and leaf spot.
