Hydrangea arborescens Annabelle forms a rounded mound of broad green leaves and exceptionally large spherical flower heads. The blooms open pale green in summer, become cream to pure white, and soften toward green again as autumn approaches.
Grow it in moist but well-drained soil in partial shade, or in full sun where moisture stays reliable. It is useful in cottage borders, rain gardens, and as a source of fresh or dried cut flowers. Cut stems close to the ground in late winter to renew vigorous flowering growth.
The plant can irritate skin, and it is harmful to pets if eaten. Wear gloves and keep it away from pets.
