Juniperus chinensis Bakaurea forms a dense, low-spreading evergreen shrub about 60 to 90 cm tall and 200 to 215 cm wide. Its fine scale-like and needle-like foliage is light green to blue-green inside, with bright golden-yellow branch tips that keep their color through the year. The arching, cascading outline brings strong color and texture to the garden without flowers.
Plant it in full sun for the brightest gold color, in well-drained soil that may be acid, neutral, or alkaline. It works well as ground cover, on banks and slopes, in rock gardens, or along borders, and becomes drought tolerant once established. Water regularly during establishment, avoid waterlogged ground, and prune only when necessary, trimming young tips without cutting into old wood.
