Hylotelephium Carl is a compact, clump-forming perennial with sturdy green stems and thick, ovate, glaucous gray-green leaves. Broad, flattened heads packed with small star-shaped bright pink flowers crown the tidy mound from late summer into autumn.
Plant it in full sun and moderately fertile, well-drained chalk, loam, or sandy soil. It tolerates dry conditions once established, while overly rich soil or too much shade can weaken the normally upright stems.
The vivid late-season flowers attract bees and butterflies, and the compact form fits gravel gardens, sunny borders, wildlife gardens, and patio containers. Cut flower heads are useful fresh or dried, while standing seedheads can provide winter structure before spring cleanup.
