Pinus mugo Heideperle forms a dense, rounded evergreen cushion that brings a clear shape to rock gardens, small beds, and patio containers. Short, paired needles stay green through the year, while silver-gray new growth briefly lightens the plant in spring.
This very slow-growing conifer reaches about 2 feet tall and 20 inches wide. Give it full sun or light partial shade and sharply drained soil. Water regularly while it establishes, then allow the soil to dry between deep soakings. Its compact form usually needs little pruning.
