Silvery-backed needles give Picea omorika Nana a lively two-tone finish that stays attractive through every season. Its dense branches begin rounded and gradually form a broad cone, bringing evergreen height without the fast growth of a full-size spruce. The compact habit fits easily beside an entry, in a foundation bed, or in a large outdoor container.
Plant it in full sun with moist but well-drained clay, loam, or sandy soil. Shelter the plant from cold, drying winds and keep new roots evenly watered while they settle. Iberis and Festuca share sunny, well-drained conditions, and their lower growth keeps the spruce branches visible.
Routine pruning is rarely needed, so the natural outline stays easy to maintain. Grafted plants and semi-hardwood cuttings preserve the cultivar’s dense growth. Check stressed foliage for adelgids, spider mites, or conifer aphids, and avoid leaving the root area waterlogged.
