Lonicera caerulea ‘Wojtek’ is a vigorous honeyberry that forms a rounded, spreading deciduous fruit shrub with upright branching and oval green leaves. Small cream-yellow, lightly fragrant flowers open in April and provide early forage for bees. Plant a different compatible honeyberry cultivar nearby because cross-pollination is important for a reliable crop.
Elongated dark-blue berries with a silvery wax bloom ripen from late May through the first half of June. Their aromatic sweet-tart flesh is suited to fresh eating, juice, preserves, drying, and freezing. Grow in full sun or partial shade in fertile, well-drained soil, keep the root zone evenly moist during establishment and fruit development, and protect ripening berries from birds where necessary.
