Aster alpinus var. albus forms a compact clump of green leaves beneath pure white daisy-like flower heads with yellow centers. This low perennial flowers from May into June.
Plant it along sunny path edges, in rock gardens, gravel beds, border fronts, or outdoor containers. The open flowers attract bees.
Choose moderately fertile, well-drained chalky or loamy soil in full sun. Mix compost into the planting area, water during establishment and dry spells, then deadhead and cut back after flowering.
