Rhododendron Fantastica is a compact, broad evergreen shrub with dark elliptic leaves and woolly tan-brown undersides. In May, rounded trusses carry pink bell-shaped flowers that fade to white in the throat with light greenish-yellow spotting.
Grow it in sheltered partial shade and moist but well-drained, humus-rich acidic soil. It suits shaded borders, courtyards, containers, banks, slopes, and coastal gardens.
Keep the shallow root area evenly moist and mulch with leafy organic matter. Pruning is generally unnecessary, but damaged or wayward shoots can be tidied after flowering.
