Juniperus rigida subsp. conferta Schlager spreads into a low, dense mat of gray-green and silver needle-like foliage. Bright green shoot tips sharpen the spring display while the evergreen carpet holds year-round.
This shore juniper covers open ground in sunny or partly shaded beds, coastal gardens, and rock gardens. It accepts many well-drained soils, including dry, sandy, or chalky ground, and becomes drought tolerant once established. Small dark-blue fruits may appear. The plant is harmful if eaten and may irritate skin, so wear gloves when handling.
