Sorbaria sorbifolia Sem forms a compact, spreading screen with upright stems and changing foliage color. New leaves open yellow-green with pink tones, mature toward green in summer, and redden in fall. Narrow panicles of small white flowers rise above the leaves from June through August.
Plant it in full sun for the strongest foliage color, although partial shade is tolerated. Moist, well-drained, moderately fertile soil supports the best growth. Its suckering habit can fill space efficiently, but remove unwanted shoots before the colony extends beyond its intended area.
