Astrantia major Cerise Button produces branched stems carrying compact heads of small cerise-pink flowers from late spring through summer. The blooms soften toward pale pink as they age and stand above deeply divided green foliage.
The upright clump fits cottage borders, wildlife gardens, and cutting gardens, where its flowers provide nectar and pollen for visiting insects. It combines naturally with roses, salvias, and alliums.
Plant it in fertile soil that remains moist but drains well, in full sun or partial shade. Water during dry spells, feed in spring and midsummer, and remove fading flower heads to extend the display and limit unwanted seedlings.
