Weigela Red Prince is a compact bushy deciduous shrub with green oval leaves and abundant narrow funnel-shaped flowers in bright red to dark pink. The vivid blooms hold their colour well and attract bees and hummingbirds.
Grow it in full sun or partial shade in fertile, moist but well-drained or well-drained soil. Its rounded structure suits flowering borders, wildlife gardens, hedges and screens, with the strongest bloom developing where light is generous.
Water while the roots establish and during prolonged dry spells. Prune immediately after the main flowering display because the shrub blooms on older wood, and remove selected old stems gradually if renovation is needed.
