Rhododendron Germania forms a broad, dense evergreen mound of leathery elliptic green leaves. In late spring and early summer, large upright trusses open in vivid deep pink, with darker ruffled margins, paler centres and small reddish-brown markings.
The mature shrub gives year-round structure to sheltered woodland-edge borders, informal gardens and flowering screens. Its naturally wider habit pairs well with Pieris, camellias and Japanese maples in a layered acid-soil planting.
Grow it in leafy, humus-rich, moist but well-drained acid clay, loam or sand in partial shade. Mulch with pine bark, water during dry periods, avoid lime and waterlogging, and remove only damaged growth or faded trusses after flowering. All parts are harmful if eaten.
