This compact, upright shrub matures about 5 to 8 feet tall and 3 to 5 feet wide. It fits a small border or large patio container and grows in full sun or partial shade. Moist but well-drained chalk, loam, or sandy soil supports healthy growth.
Edible brown nuts may ripen from September, although crops can be sparse. The pollen can cause respiratory allergy, and the nuts can trigger reactions in people with hazelnut allergy. Sensitive individuals should avoid the relevant exposure.
