Pink buds open into pure white, bell-shaped flowers on Rhododendron yakushimanum Schneekissen, with small lime-green throat spots above compact evergreen foliage. Silvery new growth matures to dark green leaves with creamy-brown felt beneath. The low, spreading shrub fits patio containers, rock gardens, narrow beds, and sheltered cottage borders.
Grow it in acid, humus-rich soil that stays moist but drains freely. Full sun or partial shade works when the roots remain cool and evenly moist, while shelter limits drying wind. Keep the shallow roots covered with a loose acidic mulch, and remove spent flower clusters if practical.
All parts contain toxic compounds and should not be eaten. Keep plant material away from children and pets. In good acid soil, established plants usually need little feeding; container plants can receive a light ericaceous feed in spring.
